Violet Tie Dress

I was invited to two weddings in may, and on one of the invitations there was written "black tie" for the evening part, so I needed a dress. As it was a wedding, black wasn't an option, and I wanted to have it knee length, too. And I had to be fast as there wasn't much time (although I have to say that buying one would not have been quicker). So I went with a variation of a pattern I've already sewn before.

Im Mai war ich zu zwei Hochzeiten eingeladen, und bei einer von beiden wurde auf der Einladungskarte für die Feier am Abend "Black Tie" gewünscht, also brauchte ich ein entsprechendes Kleid. Da es ja eine Hochzeit war, habe ich von der Farbe schwarz eher abgesehen, und ausserdem wollte ich das Kleid nur knielang haben, nicht bodenlang. Und ich musste schnell sein da nicht mehr viel Zeit war zum Nähen (ich bin mir aber sicher, dass Einkaufen auch nicht schneller gewesen wäre). Also habe ich mir mein Kleid aus schon mal genähten Schnittmustern zusammen gesetzt. 

I used Burdastyle 08/2010 for the bodice, which I had already used for my Vienna gala evening dress. This pattern features a short tulip skirt, but I am not so much in tulip skirts, so I used the skirt part of another Burda dress (Burdastyle 11/2007) instead.

Für das Oberteil habe ich den Schnitt aus der Burdastyle 08/2012 verwendet, mit dem ich auch schon mein Wiener Abendkleid genäht habe. Dieser Schnitt sieht einen knielangen Tulpenrock vor, aber Tulpenröcke sind nicht so mein Fall, also habe ich statt dessen den Rockteil eines anderen Burda-Kleides (Burdastyle 11/2007) verwendet. 

As for the bodice, I did not have enough time to add boning all around as I did for my Vienna gala dress with all the additional work that means. I was worried, though, that the back would crinkle or collapse as it is attached to the shoulder straps on very small points near the center back, so I added some spiral steel boning to the side seams and vertical back seams, while using the seam allowances of the lining as boning cases.

Ich hatte nicht genügend Zeit, um wie bei dem Wiener Abendkleid das ganze Oberteil mit Stäbchen zu verstärken. Befürchtete aber doch, dass es sich am Rücken zusammenstauchen würde, da hier das Oberteil nur an zwei kleinen Stellen an der Rückenmitte mit den Trägern verbunden ist. Darum habe ich eine schnelle Variante gewählt und nur in die Seitennähte und die hinteren Teilungsnähte des Innenfutters Spiralstäbchen eingebaut. Dafür habe ich die Nahtzugaben als Tunnel verwendet. 

The fabric is silk dupioni, which is a dream to work with, apart from that it frays like nothing. On some parts, my seam allowances were reduced to about half the width after trying on the dress one single time!

Bei dem Stoff handelt es sich um Dupion-Seide, die sich sehr gut näht, aber ausfranst wie nix Gutes. An manchen Stellen war die Nahtzugabe bis auf die Hälfte reduziert, nur nach einmal Anprobieren!

I underlined all of the bodice parts with silk organza. The skirt was underlined with some really stiff petticoat tulle - and embellished with some trim at the hem seam to hide the frayed fabric edge.

Um alles insgesamt etwas stabiler zu machen, habe ich das Oberteil komplett mit Seidenorganza unterlegt. Der Rockteil hat einen steifen Petticoat-Tüll als Unterlage bekommen und wurde an der inneren Saumkante mit etwas Spitze verziert, hauptsächlich um die Fransen an der Stoffkante zu verstecken.

Und hier ist die Rückenansicht mit der riesigen "Schleife", die eigentlich gar keine ist. Glücklicherweise kann ich das Kleid an- und ausziehen, ohne den Knoten zu öffnen, so dass ich ihn nicht im Rücken binden muss.

Ich war letzten Endes ziemlich zufrieden mit dem Kleid - und fühlte mich auch angemessen gekleidet darin!

Vintage Valentino Dress

I'm in love with this pattern since I found it on Etsy! And now that dress finally became reality.
The pattern size was too big for me, so I had to grade it down. I also thought that it would be more practical to have 3/4-sleeves instead of short ones, so I drafted my own sleeve according to the Swiss pattern making system. Of course I had to make a muslin, and there were quite some changes to do:

Diesen Vintage Valentino-Schnitt habe ich auf Etsy gefunden und musste ihn unbedingt haben. Und jetzt ist endlich ein richtiges Kleid daraus geworden! Den Schnitt musste ich etwas verkleinern. Ich dachte auch, dass 3/4-Ärmel vermutlich praktischer wären, daher habe ich einen eigenen Ärmel nach dem Schweizerischen Schnittsystem gezeichnet. Deshalb war natürlich ein Probeteil notwendig, und da musste auch noch ganz schön was verändert werden. 

First of all, the bodice was too long (no surprise here).
The shoulders appeared to be too wide in the beginning, but in fact there was also too much room in the front bodice, and after pinning out the excess fabric, the shoulders were in the right place, too.
The vertical folds on the upper sleeve indicate that the sleeve cap is not high enough (luckily I read this in a book by chance right before I started with the muslin).

Das Oberteil war wie immer zu lang. 
Die Schultern erschienen vorne erst mal zu weit, aber die obere Hälfte vom Vorderteil warf auch noch Falten, und als ich die herausgesteckt hatte, haben die Schultern weitgehend gepasst. 
Die vertikalen Falten an den oberen Ärmeln deuten auf eine zu niedrige Armkugel hin (zum Glück hatte ich das zufällig gerade gelesen bevor ich das Probeteil gemacht habe).

The back might appear a bit loose on the photo but you can believe me that I need that space to move my arms forward!
This time I tried a new method of forward shoulder adjustment, and it worked really well!

Um die Hüften etwas mehr Platz wäre auch nicht schlecht. 
Das Rückenteil sieht vielleicht etwas weit aus, aber ich brauche den Platz um meine Arme gut nach vorne bewegen zu können! So ist es gerade bequem. 
Dieses Mal habe ich die Schnittänderung für nach vorne geneigte Schultern nach einer neuen Methode probiert, und es hat ganz gut funktioniert.

But the sleeves have too much fabric at the back that sticks out. I had to remove quite a lot of fabric at the back sleeve, as you can see on this photo (the red area is what I had to cut off):

Another hard decision was the fabric. Not which fabric to use, but which side of it! After obsessing about wether it is "allowed" to use the wrong side of a fabric as the right side I chose to do so anyway. It was the wrong side of the fabric that drew my attention when I bought it, and it's the side that I simply like more. Which side would you have chosen? Is it ok to change sides of a fabric? Up on the photo is the right side, and down is the wrong side of the fabric:

Wie man sehen kann, habe ich mich dann doch wieder für kurze Ärmel umentschieden. Die Qual der Wahl…
Eine für mich nicht einfache Entscheidung betraf den Stoff. Und zwar, welche Seite ich aussen haben wollte. Als ich den Stoff gekauft habe, hatte mir eigentlich die linke Seite so gut gefallen. Nachdem ich ein paar Tage lang überlegt hatte, ob man auch die linke Seite eines Stoffes als die rechte Seite verwenden "darf", habe ich mich schliesslich entschieden, es genau so zu machen.

One Productive Weekend

As I was working for several weekends I did not get much sewing done in the last weeks, but this past weekend I was free from any obligations, so I spent it with sewing (yes, although the weather was great I stayed in the house sewing…)! And it was quite productive, as I finished two small projects!

Während der letzten Wochenenden musste ich häufig arbeiten und bin leider kaum zum Nähen gekommen. Aber dieses Wochenende hatte ich frei, und so habe ich es trotz des schönen Wetters drinnen verbracht und mal wieder nach Herzenslust genäht. Und es wurde ein sehr produktives Wochenende, ich habe gleich zwei kleine Projekte fertig stellen können!

First, there is a bolero cardigan, sort of. It is basically a long shawl with sleeves set in. The pointed ends of the shawl both go from the front over the shoulder of the other side.

Das erste ist eine Art Bolerojäckchen. Im Grunde ist es ein Schal mit eingesetzten Ärmeln. Die spitz zulaufenden "Schalenden" werden vorne überkreuzt und über die Schultern gelegt. 

This clever little pattern is from Ottobre 5/2012 and I really like it, but it turns out to be really short and it has a lot of negative ease, so I'm glad that my knit fabric has enough stretch in it.

Der Schnitt ist aus der Ottobre 5/2012 und ich finde das Jäckchen/Schal wirklich clever. Es ist aber kürzer als gedacht und der Schnitt ist erstaunlich viel kleiner als die Körpermasse geschnitten. Ich bin daher froh, dass mein Strickstoff sehr dehnbar ist und genug nachgibt. 

The skirt is simply made from two rectangles, one for the waistband and one gathered to be the skirt. There was no pattern, I just measured my waist and went on. I added an exposed zipper at the back, my very first one. I followed this tutorial on Burdastyle and it worked very well. So I've also learned a new technique. Not bad for one week-end, isn't it?

Der Rock ist ganz einfach aus zwei Rechtecken gemacht: eins für den Bund und eines für den Rockteil. Ohne Schnitt, nur auf Basis der Taillenweite und der Rest über den Daumen geschätzt. Ich habe dabei auch zum ersten Mal einen aufgesetzten Reissverschluss ausprobiert, in der hinteren Mitte. Dabei war die Anleitung von der Burdastyle-Seite sehr hilfreich. Ich habe also auch gleich noch etwas Neues gelernt. Und bin super zufrieden mit meinem Wochenende!

A Dotty Silk Dress

This is from Burdastyle magazine 8/2012, made up in a printed silk fabric. And I have to say I'm really surprised how warm a silk dress can be, especially when worn with woolen tights and a thin woolen t-shirt underneath. (And although you can't see it, I'm really happy with this dress, just concentrating on the self-timer of my camera…)

Dieser Seidenstoff hat länger nach einem passenden Schnitt gesucht und ihn nun in der Burdastyle 8/2012 gefunden. Und ich bin überrascht, wie warm so ein Seidenkleid sein kann, besonders mit wollenen Strumpfhosen und einem dünnen Wollshirt darunter. (Mit dem Kleid bin ich sehr glücklich, auch wenn es nicht so aussieht, da ich mich voll auf den Selbstauslöser konzentriert habe…)

The original pattern has the skirt longer in the back than in the front, but I was lazy and made my hem in an even length all around (it's so much easier to simply use the skirt marker). I also omitted the front neckline slit and added some yellow rickrack instead.

Eigentlich sollte der Rock hinten länger sein als vorn, aber ich war dann zu faul dazu und habe den Saum mit dem Rockabrunder gleichmässig lang gemacht. Der Schlitz am Halsausschnitt vorne hat mir auch nicht so gefallen, also habe ich den Halsausschnitt statt dessen mit etwas Zickzackend verziert, in der gleichen Farbe wie die Punkte auf dem Stoff. 

I also made the sleeves wider to make sure that they would be comfortable even with a long-sleeved tee underneath. They do feel comfortable and I can move my arms without restriction, but after wearing the dress a few times I noticed that there must be some strain at the front sleeve caps:

Die Ärmel habe ich extra weiter gemacht, damit sie auch ganz sicher bequem sind, auch mit einem Shirt darunter. Sie sind jetzt auch bequem und ich kann meine Arme gut in jede Richtung bewegen, aber nachdem ich das Kleid ein paar mal getragen habe, sind mir an den Ärmelkugelvorderkanten so komisch verschobene Punkte aufgefallen, die vorher nicht da waren und sicherlich ein Zeichen von zu viel Spannung irgendwo sind:

Which means I'll have to work on my sleeve adjustments. Although at the moment I don't have a clue where these strain lines come from. They are on both sleeves, but only at the front side, not at the back.

Das heisst also, dass ich an meinen Ärmelanpassungen noch arbeiten muss. Obwohl ich im Moment wirklich keine Ahnung habe, wo ich da was ändern muss. Diese Spannungszüge sind an beiden Ärmeln, und jeweils nur an der Vorderseite. 

The adjustment of the back bodice seems to have worked well enough, no tightness in the back:

I hope to figure out the sleeve issue one day. Apart from that, this is a very comfortable dress, easy to wear and good for almost any occasion!

Ich hoffe, ich kriege irgendwann mal noch raus, was mit den Ärmeln nicht stimmt. Trotzdem ist das hier ein bequemes Kleid, das sich gut zu allen möglichen Gelegenheiten tragen lässt!

New Favorite Winter Dress

When I found this mustard wool knit fabric in my local Bernina store, I couldn't resist buying it and making it into a dress.

Als ich diesen Wolljersey im Bernina-Geschäft gesichtet hatte, konnte ich nicht widerstehen (wer könnte auch?).

The pattern I used is a vintage one, and by chance it was my size already and even a petite size, so I did neither have to do any pattern grading nor do any alterations on it, wow!

Für das Kleid habe ich einen Vintage-Schnitt verwendet. Der war schon direkt in meiner Grösse und sogar als Kurzgrösse, und ich musste den Schnitt diesmal nicht nur nicht vergrössern oder verkleinern, sondern auch sonst gar keine Anpassungen vornehmen!

I did not like the ruched collar, though the dress looked a bit bland without anything, so I drafted a peter pan collar myself. I attached the collar with some snaps at the neckline facing to make it detachable for washing, which meant a bit of fiddling around, as I could not find any instructions for detachable collars at all. Please ignore the blue markings: I used some sort of magic pen to mark the positions of the snaps and forgot how to remove the markings as I threw away the packaging.

Der Rüschenkragen hat mir an dem Schnitt nicht so gefallen, allerdings sah das Kleid ganz ohne Kragen auch ein bisschen fad aus, also habe ich mir einen Bubikragen selbst konstruiert und genäht. Der Kragen ist mit Druckknöpfen am Halsaussschnittbesatz befestigt, damit ich ihn zum Waschen abnehmen kann. Ich konnte für abnehmbare Kragen leider keine Anleitung finden und habe es auch nicht perfekt hingekriegt, die Druckknopfleiste ist etwas verknorkelt, aber die sieht man ja nicht. Leider habe ich die Verpackung von meinem magischen Stift weggeworfen und weiss jetzt auch nicht mehr, wie ich die blauen Markierungen wieder aus dem Stoff rausbekomme...

The honeycomb decoration at the hem was already in the fabric, on both sides of the selvage. Of course, an A-line skirt is not ideal to use a straight decoration boarder at the hem, but I didn't know where else to place it and decided to try it anyway. It doesn't look too crooked, I think. If it would not have worked out, my plan was to cut the dress above the honeycombs and set on a tier without decoration.

Das Wabenmuster war bereits im Stoff, an beiden Kanten sogar. Ein ausgestellter Rock ist jetzt natürlich nicht so ideal, um so eine Kantenverzierung an den Saum zu legen. Ich konnte mir die Verzierung aber an anderer Stelle nicht so richtig vorstellen (den Ärmel entlang? an der Taille? am Oberteil?) und habe dann beschlossen es trotzdem so zu versuchen. Ich finde es sieht nicht allzu schräg aus. Im Notfall hätte ich das Kleid oberhalb der Waben abgeschnitten und eine extra Stufe angesetzt.

Allerdings hätte ich mir hinten etwas mehr Mühe geben können, an der mittleren Naht das Muster entsprechend fortzusetzen...

And that's it: my new favorite dress! :-)

DIY iPhone Gloves

Happy new year to all of you! I hope you had great holidays..
Euch allen ein gutes neues Jahr! Ich hoffe ihr habt schöne Feiertage verbracht...

Here is a quick little project for winter! I like reading your blogs on my iPhone while waiting for my train to arrive. Which means, that in winter I get really cold hands. Or I have to put on and off my gloves very often. Of course, there are gloves to use with smartphones to buy, but they are either made of synthetic material and not warm at all, and the good ones are quite expensive and hard to find.
Now I've found a solution to make my own!
All you need is a pair of gloves and some conductive thread, which you can buy for example here. This is also the website where I got the idea from!

Hier kommt ein schnelles Projekt für den Winter! Ich lese gerne Nähblogs auf meinem iPhone, während ich auf meinen Zug zur Arbeit oder nach hause warte. Da werden die Finger im Winter allerdings ganz schön kalt! Es gibt zwar Handschuhe, mit denen man ein Smartphone bedienen kann, aber die sind entweder aus synthetischem, nicht wärmendem Material, oder sehr teuer. 
Jetzt habe ich aber herausgefunden, wie ich meine eigenen iPhone-Handschuhe machen kann!
Alles, was man dazu braucht, ist ein Paar Handschuhe, und elektrisch leitenden Faden. Den bekommt man beispielsweise hier oder hier (auf dieser Seite habe ich auch die Idee dazu gefunden). 

First, you should put your glove on and check where your finger hits the screen of your phone. For me, this is mostly only my thumb, right under the tip.
Then insert something into the finger of the glove so it's easier to sew; I used the grip of a wooden spoon.

Für den Anfang ist es eine gute Idee, den Handschuh anzuziehen und sich die Stelle zu merken oder markieren, mit der der Handschuhfinger auf die Oberfläche des Smartphones trifft. Bei mir ist das der Daumen, etwas unterhalb der Spitze. 
Dann habe ich einen Kochlöffel mit dem Stiel in den Handschuhfinger geschoben, so dass das Nähen etwas einfacher wird. 

Then sew the conductive thread to your glove finger. It is important that the thread goes through the whole fabric layer and into the inside of the glove as well, as the thread is the connection between your finger and your smartphone.

Dann wird mit dem leitenden Faden die Kontaktfläche auf den Handschuhfinger aufgenäht. Es ist dabei wichtig, dass der Faden durch den ganzen Handschuhstoff hindurchgeht. Der Faden ist die Verbindung vom Finger zum Smartphone.

There should also be enough contact surface of the thread inside the glove, too.
The thread is quite springy and knots tend to open easily. To prevent that, put a bit of clear nail polish onto the knot (but only a tiny bit, as you want to keep the conductivity of your work!).

Bei meinem ersten Versuch sieht es etwas unordentlich aus! Beim nächsten Mal wird es sicher besser (ich habe extra nicht mit meinen "guten" Handschuhen angefangen). An der Innenseite muss die Kontaktfläche auch gross genug sein. 
Der leitende Faden ist ziemlich widerspenstig und Knoten und vernähte Enden gehen relativ leicht auf. Um das zu verhindern, kann man etwas klaren Nagellack auf diese Stellen auftragen (aber nur ganz wenig, um die Kontaktfläche nicht mit dem Nagellack zu isolieren!).

Not a Christmas Dress

I was invited to a wedding about two months ago and needed a dress for the occasion. So I made up this dress with dupioni silk from my stash and with Burda Firstrow pattern 713. It was also in the 11/2007 magazine. I altered the front neckline to have almost a boatneck instead of a deep V.

Ende Oktober war ich zu einer Hochzeit eingeladen und brauchte ein Kleid dafür. Ich habe also dieses Kleid genäht, mit Dupion-Seide aus meinem Vorrat und dem Burda Firstrow Schnitt 713, auch in der Burda 11/2007 zu finden. Den vorderen V-Ausschnitt habe ich allerdings zu einem weiten hohen Ausschnitt umgeändert. 

I played the music together with a friend during the ceremony, so it was of utmost importance that I could move my arms freely up and forward. This is always an issue for me, both with store bought and self made garments. I often feel restricted by the garments in the upper back and shoulder area, hindered to move my arms freely. And this is really bad when you have to concentrate on the music you are playing and need full freedom of movement! I have tried several types of alterations so far (broad back, bigger upper arms, forward shoulders), but together, they made pattern alterations quite complicated and even could not solve that problem completely.

Da ich auch während der Trauung mit einer Freundin zusammen die Musik machen sollte, war es äusserst wichtig, dass ich meine Arme in dem Kleid frei bewegen konnte. Das ist bisher immer ein Problem gewesen, bei gekaufter, aber auch bei selbstgenähter Kleidung. Im oberen Rückenbereich und um die Schultern sind mir die Sachen häufig etwas zu eng und halten meine Arme zurück, wenn ich sie nach vorne oder oben heben will. Das geht natürlich nicht, wenn man sich aufs Musizieren konzentrieren muss und dabei volle Bewegungsfreiheit braucht! Ich hatte schon nach den Anleitungen aus Büchern verschiedene Abänderungen ausprobiert (breiter Rücken, starke Oberarme, nach vorne fallende Schultern), aber die haben die Schnittänderungen sehr kompliziert gemacht und das Problem auch nicht zu meiner Zufriedenheit lösen können. 

This time, I decided to try it another way: to slash and spread the back bodice pattern just at the points where it feels tight. Here you can see where I cut my pattern. The blue part is where the pattern pieces came to overlap.

Dieses Mal wollte ich einen anderen Weg versuchen: ich habe das Schnittmuster vom Rückenteil genau dort aufgeschnitten und gestreckt, wo es sich immer zu eng anfühlt. Hier habe ich die Linien eingezeichnet, wo ich geschnitten habe. Auf der blauen Fläche überlappen sich die Teile. 

Of course I made a muslin! See how nicely I can move my arms forward? There are wrinkles under my arm and the fabric is taught at the back, but nothing holds my arms from moving. There are still some wrinkles at the sides when the arms are relaxed which I don't know where they come from, but for the moment this is okay for me. I'll try this method again in the future!

Das Probeteil war schon nicht schlecht. Jedenfalls kann ich so meine Arme gut nach vorne bewegen. Es gibt Zugfalten unter den Armen und der Stoff am Rücken ist schon stramm, aber nichts hält meine Arme zurück oder hindert sie an der Bewegung. Die Rückenansicht bei lockeren Armen ist ganz ok, bis auf die Falten an den Seiten. Wo die herkommen, habe ich noch nicht herausgefunden, kann aber im Moment damit leben. Diese Methode werde ich wohl noch öfter ausprobieren!

Then the dress came together quite quickly (luckily, as I only had one week to make it, paper pattern and muslin included). I could not find any matching in seam zipper, so I used a standard one instead. 

Das Kleid war dann relativ schnell zusammen genäht (musste es auch, ich hatte für alles nur eine Woche Zeit). Ich habe keinen farblich passenden Nahtreissverschluss gefunden, also habe ich einen "normalen" eingenäht und das hat diesmal auch ganz gut geklappt. 

The skirt part is underlined with petticoat tulle to give it some body and let it stick out. I added some trimming to the hem to make it look nicer.

Der Rockteil ist mit Petticoat-Tüll verstärkt, damit er schön absteht. Da der Saum nicht eingeschlagen wird, habe ich die Kante mit einer Spitzenkante verziert. 

A little extra that I added was the lining of the bodice, which is not required by the pattern instructions. But I love it so much more with lining!

Ausserdem habe ich das Oberteil und die Ärmel gefüttert. Das stand zwar nicht in der Anleitung, aber so finde ich es viel schöner!

I would totally want to wear this dress for christmas, but…. it is too cold around here for a dress like that! Long sleeved wool dresses are the way to go…

Ich würde das Kleid ja gerne zu Weihnachten tragen, aber… es ist hier viel zu kalt für so ein Kleid! Langärmlige Wollkleider sind da die bessere Wahl...

Bathrobe Dress

So, I wanted to make this dress from a vintage pattern (perfect for winter, long sleeves!):

In the beginning, I thought that this would be an easy task, but in the end I had to make several changes to get a dress I like. Maybe the fabric I chose was too soft and not stiff enough for that kind of dress!
I measured the pattern carefully, graded it down a bit, but when I tried it on for the first time…

Anfangs dachte ich noch, das wäre ein schnelles Projekt, aber da habe ich mich gründlich geirrt! Vielleicht war mein Stoff zu weich und hatte zu wenig Stand für ein Kleid wie dieses. 
Ich habe den Schnitt ein wenig verkleinern müssen, habe sorgfältig alle nachgemessen, und bei der ersten Anprobe...

…it was way too big around the waist. After taking in the waist some more it was better.
…was es in der Taille viiieeel zu weit (zum Glück nur in der Taille). Das war noch einfach zu beheben. 

The next problem was that I wanted the points of the front neckline to stand up, but instead they kept falling down. After several tries with collar stays I finally got a reasonable result by backing the front neckline facing with hair canvas, left over from my spring coat.

Die Spitzen vorne am Ausschnitt sind immer zusammengefallen. Ich wollte aber gerne, dass die Spitzen gerade stehen bleiben und schön am Körper anliegen. Nach einigen Experimenten mit Kragenstäbchen habe ich schliesslich den vorderen Ausschnittbesatz mit Rosshaareinlage verstärkt. Ich hatte noch Reste von meinem Frühlingsmantel übrig. 

When I had attached the sleeves and made up a belt and the dress was almost finished, I was really disappointed. The result reminded me more of my grandmother's bathrobe than of a dress!

Als dann die Ärmel dran waren und der Gürtel und das Kleid somit einigermassen fertig war, war ich sehr enttäuscht. Das Ganze erinnerte mich mehr an den Morgenmantel von meiner Oma als an ein Kleid. 

I don't have a picture of the whole dress, but you get the idea! The fabric however, a nice and soft wool in one of my favorite colors, was too good (an too expensive) to throw the dress away. So I ripped off the sleeves and narrowed them. I also had to make them shorter, because of the sleeve vent they originally had. And I made a narrow belt that is permanently attached to the dress in the front and closes  with two buttons from my stash in the back.

Ich habe leider kein besseres Bild von dem Kleid, der Frust war etwas zu gross! Nachdem der Stoff aber zu schade war um das Ganze in die Tonne zu treten, habe ich die Ärmel wieder abgetrennt, verengt und gekürzt (kürzen musste ich, da die ursprünglichen Ärmel Schlitze hatten). Den Gürtel habe ich schmaler geschnitten, über das ganze Vorderteil befestigt und im Rücken mit zwei Knöpfen geschlossen. 

Here is the final outcome! In the end, it is quite different from what I had planned, but still a nice and comfortable dress!

So sieht es doch schon viel besser aus! Jetzt bin ich ganz zufrieden, das Kleid sieht endlich nach Kleid aus und ist sogar ziemlich bequem!
