Vintage Valentino Dress

I'm in love with this pattern since I found it on Etsy! And now that dress finally became reality.
The pattern size was too big for me, so I had to grade it down. I also thought that it would be more practical to have 3/4-sleeves instead of short ones, so I drafted my own sleeve according to the Swiss pattern making system. Of course I had to make a muslin, and there were quite some changes to do:

Diesen Vintage Valentino-Schnitt habe ich auf Etsy gefunden und musste ihn unbedingt haben. Und jetzt ist endlich ein richtiges Kleid daraus geworden! Den Schnitt musste ich etwas verkleinern. Ich dachte auch, dass 3/4-Ärmel vermutlich praktischer wären, daher habe ich einen eigenen Ärmel nach dem Schweizerischen Schnittsystem gezeichnet. Deshalb war natürlich ein Probeteil notwendig, und da musste auch noch ganz schön was verändert werden. 

First of all, the bodice was too long (no surprise here).
The shoulders appeared to be too wide in the beginning, but in fact there was also too much room in the front bodice, and after pinning out the excess fabric, the shoulders were in the right place, too.
The vertical folds on the upper sleeve indicate that the sleeve cap is not high enough (luckily I read this in a book by chance right before I started with the muslin).

Das Oberteil war wie immer zu lang. 
Die Schultern erschienen vorne erst mal zu weit, aber die obere Hälfte vom Vorderteil warf auch noch Falten, und als ich die herausgesteckt hatte, haben die Schultern weitgehend gepasst. 
Die vertikalen Falten an den oberen Ärmeln deuten auf eine zu niedrige Armkugel hin (zum Glück hatte ich das zufällig gerade gelesen bevor ich das Probeteil gemacht habe). 

I made some more space around my hips at the back.
The back might appear a bit loose on the photo but you can believe me that I need that space to move my arms forward!
This time I tried a new method of forward shoulder adjustment, and it worked really well!

Um die Hüften etwas mehr Platz wäre auch nicht schlecht. 
Das Rückenteil sieht vielleicht etwas weit aus, aber ich brauche den Platz um meine Arme gut nach vorne bewegen zu können! So ist es gerade bequem. 
Dieses Mal habe ich die Schnittänderung für nach vorne geneigte Schultern nach einer neuen Methode probiert, und es hat ganz gut funktioniert.

But the sleeves have too much fabric at the back that sticks out. I had to remove quite a lot of fabric at the back sleeve, as you can see on this photo (the red area is what I had to cut off):

Another hard decision was the fabric. Not which fabric to use, but which side of it! After obsessing about wether it is "allowed" to use the wrong side of a fabric as the right side I chose to do so anyway. It was the wrong side of the fabric that drew my attention when I bought it, and it's the side that I simply like more. Which side would you have chosen? Is it ok to change sides of a fabric? Up on the photo is the right side, and down is the wrong side of the fabric:

Wie man sehen kann, habe ich mich dann doch wieder für kurze Ärmel umentschieden. Die Qual der Wahl…
Eine für mich nicht einfache Entscheidung betraf den Stoff. Und zwar, welche Seite ich aussen haben wollte. Als ich den Stoff gekauft habe, hatte mir eigentlich die linke Seite so gut gefallen. Nachdem ich ein paar Tage lang überlegt hatte, ob man auch die linke Seite eines Stoffes als die rechte Seite verwenden "darf", habe ich mich schliesslich entschieden, es genau so zu machen. 
Auf dem Foto seht ihr oben die rechte, unten die linke Stoffseite. Welche hättet ihr genommen?

New Favorite Winter Dress

When I found this mustard wool knit fabric in my local Bernina store, I couldn't resist buying it and making it into a dress.

Als ich diesen Wolljersey im Bernina-Geschäft gesichtet hatte, konnte ich nicht widerstehen (wer könnte auch?).

The pattern I used is a vintage one, and by chance it was my size already and even a petite size, so I did neither have to do any pattern grading nor do any alterations on it, wow!

Für das Kleid habe ich einen Vintage-Schnitt verwendet. Der war schon direkt in meiner Grösse und sogar als Kurzgrösse, und ich musste den Schnitt diesmal nicht nur nicht vergrössern oder verkleinern, sondern auch sonst gar keine Anpassungen vornehmen!

I did not like the ruched collar, though the dress looked a bit bland without anything, so I drafted a peter pan collar myself. I attached the collar with some snaps at the neckline facing to make it detachable for washing, which meant a bit of fiddling around, as I could not find any instructions for detachable collars at all. Please ignore the blue markings: I used some sort of magic pen to mark the positions of the snaps and forgot how to remove the markings as I threw away the packaging.

Der Rüschenkragen hat mir an dem Schnitt nicht so gefallen, allerdings sah das Kleid ganz ohne Kragen auch ein bisschen fad aus, also habe ich mir einen Bubikragen selbst konstruiert und genäht. Der Kragen ist mit Druckknöpfen am Halsaussschnittbesatz befestigt, damit ich ihn zum Waschen abnehmen kann. Ich konnte für abnehmbare Kragen leider keine Anleitung finden und habe es auch nicht perfekt hingekriegt, die Druckknopfleiste ist etwas verknorkelt, aber die sieht man ja nicht. Leider habe ich die Verpackung von meinem magischen Stift weggeworfen und weiss jetzt auch nicht mehr, wie ich die blauen Markierungen wieder aus dem Stoff rausbekomme...

The honeycomb decoration at the hem was already in the fabric, on both sides of the selvage. Of course, an A-line skirt is not ideal to use a straight decoration boarder at the hem, but I didn't know where else to place it and decided to try it anyway. It doesn't look too crooked, I think. If it would not have worked out, my plan was to cut the dress above the honeycombs and set on a tier without decoration.

Das Wabenmuster war bereits im Stoff, an beiden Kanten sogar. Ein ausgestellter Rock ist jetzt natürlich nicht so ideal, um so eine Kantenverzierung an den Saum zu legen. Ich konnte mir die Verzierung aber an anderer Stelle nicht so richtig vorstellen (den Ärmel entlang? an der Taille? am Oberteil?) und habe dann beschlossen es trotzdem so zu versuchen. Ich finde es sieht nicht allzu schräg aus. Im Notfall hätte ich das Kleid oberhalb der Waben abgeschnitten und eine extra Stufe angesetzt.

Allerdings hätte ich mir hinten etwas mehr Mühe geben können, an der mittleren Naht das Muster entsprechend fortzusetzen...

And that's it: my new favorite dress! :-)

Bathrobe Dress

So, I wanted to make this dress from a vintage pattern (perfect for winter, long sleeves!):
Für den Winter (lange Ärmel!) wollte ich dieses Kleid von einem meiner Vintage-Schnittmuster nähen:

In the beginning, I thought that this would be an easy task, but in the end I had to make several changes to get a dress I like. Maybe the fabric I chose was too soft and not stiff enough for that kind of dress!
I measured the pattern carefully, graded it down a bit, but when I tried it on for the first time…

Anfangs dachte ich noch, das wäre ein schnelles Projekt, aber da habe ich mich gründlich geirrt! Vielleicht war mein Stoff zu weich und hatte zu wenig Stand für ein Kleid wie dieses. 
Ich habe den Schnitt ein wenig verkleinern müssen, habe sorgfältig alle nachgemessen, und bei der ersten Anprobe...

…it was way too big around the waist. After taking in the waist some more it was better.
…was es in der Taille viiieeel zu weit (zum Glück nur in der Taille). Das war noch einfach zu beheben. 

The next problem was that I wanted the points of the front neckline to stand up, but instead they kept falling down. After several tries with collar stays I finally got a reasonable result by backing the front neckline facing with hair canvas, left over from my spring coat.

Die Spitzen vorne am Ausschnitt sind immer zusammengefallen. Ich wollte aber gerne, dass die Spitzen gerade stehen bleiben und schön am Körper anliegen. Nach einigen Experimenten mit Kragenstäbchen habe ich schliesslich den vorderen Ausschnittbesatz mit Rosshaareinlage verstärkt. Ich hatte noch Reste von meinem Frühlingsmantel übrig. 

When I had attached the sleeves and made up a belt and the dress was almost finished, I was really disappointed. The result reminded me more of my grandmother's bathrobe than of a dress!

Als dann die Ärmel dran waren und der Gürtel und das Kleid somit einigermassen fertig war, war ich sehr enttäuscht. Das Ganze erinnerte mich mehr an den Morgenmantel von meiner Oma als an ein Kleid. 

I don't have a picture of the whole dress, but you get the idea! The fabric however, a nice and soft wool in one of my favorite colors, was too good (an too expensive) to throw the dress away. So I ripped off the sleeves and narrowed them. I also had to make them shorter, because of the sleeve vent they originally had. And I made a narrow belt that is permanently attached to the dress in the front and closes  with two buttons from my stash in the back.

Ich habe leider kein besseres Bild von dem Kleid, der Frust war etwas zu gross! Nachdem der Stoff aber zu schade war um das Ganze in die Tonne zu treten, habe ich die Ärmel wieder abgetrennt, verengt und gekürzt (kürzen musste ich, da die ursprünglichen Ärmel Schlitze hatten). Den Gürtel habe ich schmaler geschnitten, über das ganze Vorderteil befestigt und im Rücken mit zwei Knöpfen geschlossen. 

Here is the final outcome! In the end, it is quite different from what I had planned, but still a nice and comfortable dress!

So sieht es doch schon viel besser aus! Jetzt bin ich ganz zufrieden, das Kleid sieht endlich nach Kleid aus und ist sogar ziemlich bequem!

Glowing Green Dots

This is me in my vacation, in a fantastic bookstore in Helsinki, buying yet another sewing book (and some finnish cookbooks), and in my newest self-made dress! Tina has already made several versions from this pattern (see here, and here, and here), and they all look really nice, so I decided to make one myself!

Das bin ich in den Ferien, in einem wunderschönen Buchgeschäft in Helsinki, beim Einkaufen eines neuen Nähbuchs und mehrerer finnischer Kochbücher, in meinem neuesten selbstgenähten Kleid! Tina hat bereits mehrere Versionen von diesem Schnitt genäht, die alle sehr gut geworden sind (zum Beispiel hier, hier und hier), und ich habe mir gedacht, dass mir ein Kleid von diesem Schnitt auch gefallen würde. 

The pattern is Simplicity 7051, which is a reprint from a vintage 60's pattern. I looked through my collection of vintage patterns and found out that I even already own the original one!

Der Schnitt ist Simplicity 7051, ein Repro-Vintage-Schnitt aus den 60er Jahren. Beim Durchforsten meiner Sammlung an Vintage-Schnitten ist mir sogar der Original-Schnitt in die Hände gefallen!

 As vintage patterns are only one-size, I had to grade it down a bit. I also added more flare to the skirt part, for more comfort around my bigger hips. What do you think?

Er ist allerdings, wie alle alten amerikanischen Schnittmuster, nur in einer Grösse. Ich musste also ein bisschen verkleinern. Ausserdem habe ich den Rockteil weiter ausgestellt, damit es um meine breiten Hüften ein bisschen bequemer und lockerer wird. Das Ergebnis sieht so aus:

As it is not a dress for hot summer days, I decided to line the dress completely with Bemberg lining, so that I can also wear it with tights without the dress sticking to them all the time. The fabric is a printed cotton, quite stiff for a dress fabric but for this sort of dress it works well. I so love the printed pattern! What looks like glowing green dots from afar is in fact small green blossoms!

Da es sowieso kein Kleid für heisse Sommertage ist, habe ich es auch gleich noch mit Bemberg-Futter gefüttert. So kann ich es auch mal mit Strümpfen tragen ohne dass das Kleid ständig "klebt". Der Stoff ist bedruckte Baumwolle, etwas dicker und eher ziemlich steif für ein Kleid, aber für diesen Schnitt funktioniert es gut. Und ich liebe das Stoffmuster! Was von weitem aussieht wie fluoreszierende grüne Pünktchen, sind eigentlich kleine grüne Blümchen. 

What can I say? I'm really happy with this dress! Great for a summer day strolling through Helsinki!

Burdastyle Retro Spring Dress

This is the dress i just finished some days ago: the pattern is from Burdastyle magazine 1/2013, no. 106 (can be also found here).

Gerade vor ein paar Tagen ist es fertig geworden: mein Retro-Burda-Frühlingskleid. Der Schnitt ist aus der Burdastyle 1/2013, Nr. 106 (man kann den Schnitt auch hier einzeln herunterladen). 

The pattern is based on a vintage Burda model that they featured in their magazine in 1967. What a funny thing to find out that I own the issue with this very dress in it!

Der Schnitt ist ein alter Burda-Schnitt von 1967, in der modernen Burdastyle neu aufgelegt. Zufällig habe ich herausgefunden, dass ich sogar genau die alte Ausgabe mit diesem Kleid besitze!

I'm a bit surprised by the title of the page, though. Translated, it means "children's dresses for young women". Was it really attractive to the young women of the time to be dressed like children?

Die Überschrift zu dem Kleid hat mich allerdings etwas erstaunt. Fanden es die jungen Damen von damals wirklich erstrebenswert, Kleider im Stil von Kinderkleidern zu tragen??

The technical drawing in the old magazine. The pattern came in only one size. New Burda omitted two of the vertical seams, and distributed them in another way than vintage Burda did. Which is funny, as they tell in the new magazine that it is the very same model!

Die technische Zeichnung in der alten Burda-Ausgabe. Den Schnitt gab es nur in einer einzigen Grösse. Ausserdem hat die neue Burda zwei der Querteilungsnähte unterschlagen (es gibt in der Zeitschrift allerdings noch ein Modell mit vier Teilungsnähten), und sie hat diese Nähte auch anscheinend anders verteilt. Soviel zur angeblichen Originaltreue des Schnitts!

For my dress, I did not use any lace for the sleeves, nor did I embroider them with a thousand pearls as the vintage instruction say. I used wool crepe for the entire dress. To keep a bit of the vintage look, I did not use a hidden seam zipper, but instead a "normal" one, which I put in by hand in the center back. I just love when there are a few hand sewn seams in a garment like that!

Ich habe für mein Kleid Wollkrepp verwendet, auch für die Ärmel. Die habe ich weder aus Spitze genäht noch mit etwas über Tausend Perlen wie in der Vintage-Anleitung bestickt. Schliesslich wollte ich ein alltagstaugliches Kleid haben. Um trotzdem etwas retro zu bleiben, habe ich anstelle des Nahtreissverschlusses einen "normalen" verwendet, den ich per Hand eingenäht habe. Ausserdem liebe ich handgearbeitete Nähte an einem Kleidungsstück wie diesem!

I also lined the dress, to make sure that the wool crepe would not stick to my undergarments when moving around, and finished the lining hem with a bit of lace. (Before sewing on the lace, I hemmed the lining with my narrow hem foot, for practice.)

Ich habe das Kleid gefüttert, damit der Wollkrepp nicht an der Unterwäsche "kleben" bleibt. Den Futtersaum habe ich erst mit meinem Saumfuss umgenäht (nur zur Übung) und dann noch Spitze angenäht. 

The only issue I had was with the sleeves. I didn't make any test garment, only my usual alterations for Burdastyle patterns, but I found out that not only the sleeves themselves, but also the armholes were too small! I've never had that problem before, still wondering where that comes from. Are the sleeves in this pattern simply cut smaller or did I gain some weight on my upper arms and shoulders? I let the seams out as much as possible, and although the fit of the sleeve is still not great, I'm at least able to move my arms! I'll have to check on this... Hope you like my dress!

Das einzige Problem bei diesem Kleid waren die Ärmel. Ich habe kein Testmodell genäht, sondern nur die üblichen Änderungen für Burda-Schnitte vorab am Papierschnitt gemacht, und dachte, das müsste jetzt passen, wie sonst auch. Aber entweder sind die Ärmel bei diesem Modell sehr schmal geschnitten oder ich habe an den Oberarmen und Schultern mächtig zugelegt. Es waren nämlich sowohl die Ärmel wie auch die Armlöcher zu eng! Das Problem hatte ich vorher nie... Ich habe die Nahtzugaben maximal rausgelassen, und obwohl die Ärmel immer noch nicht perfekt passen und aussehen, kann ich jetzt wenigstens wieder meine Arme bewegen. Da muss ich mal bei den nächsten Projekten drauf achten... Das Kleid gefällt mir trotzdem!

The Vintage Blouse: Finished!

A week before christmas, right when my vintage style blouse was finished, my computer hard drive broke. Luckily, I have a good backup system, so there was no data loss, but I had to wait several weeks to get it back from service with a new hard drive, and then it took me several days to set it up again. But now, I'm able to blog post again, and so to show you my new blouse made from a vintage pattern!

Eine Woche vor Weihnachten hat mein Computer aufgegeben. Zum Glück habe ich ein gutes Sicherungssystem, so dass ich diesmal wirklich keine Daten verloren habe. Ich musste aber mehrere Wochen warten, bis der Computer mit einer neuen Festplatte von der Reparatur wieder zurückkam, und dann hat es nochmal ein paar Tage gedauert bis alles wieder eingerichtet war. Aber jetzt ist er wieder voll einsatzfähig, und ich kann endlich meine neue Bluse nach altem Schnitt zeigen, die in der Zwischenzeit fertig geworden ist! 

The pattern I used is this vintage Simplicity pattern:

Das ist der alte Schnitt, den ich verwendet habe. Leider steht keine Jahreszahl drauf. 

The finished blouse sits better than the muslin and it also doesn't ride up like the muslin did, which I think is thanks to the fabric. I used the leftovers from a very lightweight wool, which I had made a dress of about a year ago. It was just enough fabric to make the blouse! 

Die fertige Bluse sitzt um einiges besser als die Probebluse, und vor allem rutscht sie nicht so nach oben! Ich denke, das liegt an dem Stoff, den ich verwendet habe: ein sehr feiner, leichter Wollstoff, aus dem ich vor etwa einem Jahr ein Kleid genäht habe. Für die Bluse habe ich den Rest verwendet; jetzt ist wirklich nichts mehr übrig, aber ich habe den Stoff voll ausgenutzt!

The blouse closes with buttons in the back, which works but is nothing for the early morning when you have to dress quickly to go to work, if you know what I mean... I was thinking about adding an in-seam side zip, but then I thought that this would spoil the whole vintage thing about it, and stayed with only the buttons. 

Die Bluse wird am Rücken mit Knöpfen geschlossen, was nett aussieht, aber es ist wirklich nichts für einen frühen Morgen, wenn man sich schnell anziehen muss um zur Arbeit zu kommen... Ursprünglich hatte ich geplant, noch einen Nahtreissverschluss an der Seite einzusetzen. Dann aber fand ich, dass das das ganze schöne "Vintage-Feeling" ruinieren würde, und habe es bei den Knöpfen belassen. 

I then decided to make it the real vintage way, and to exactly follow the instructions. (I did serge the edges, though, it's just so comfortable and clean!) And this raised a big question to me, which I hope you can help me with. 

Nachdem ich nun schon auf die Bequemlichkeit eines Extra-Reissverschlusses verzichtet hatte, dachte ich mir, dass ich genauso gut alles wie anno dazumal machen könnte und habe mich ganz an die Näh-Anleitung gehalten. (Mit einer Ausnahme: die Kanten habe ich doch mit der Overlock versäubert, da war die Versuchung zu gross!) Das hat jedoch eine Frage aufgebracht, über die ich vorher nie nachgedacht hatte, und von der ich hoffe, dass sie mir irgendjemand beantworten kann. Irgendwann. 

As written in the instructions, and in contrary to contemporary pattern instructions, I didn't use any interfacing on the neckline facings. Instead, the pattern told to sew the interfacing directly to the garment right at the seam lines. Which I did, using silk organza as interfacing. 

Wie es in der Anleitung angegeben ist, und im Gegensatz zu modernen Schnittanleitungen, habe ich die Besätze am Halsausschnitt nicht mit Einlage verstärkt. Statt dessen sollte die Einlage direkt am Kleidungsstück aufgenäht werden, direkt an der Nahtlinie. Das habe ich dann auch so gemacht. Als Einlage habe ich Seidenorganza verwendet (das war vielleicht schon die falsche Entscheidung?)

So far, so good. But since the garment is finished, the facing itself seems to lack some stability. It doesn't roll up or peek out of the garment, it just feels too soft and has to be put into place when I'm putting on the blouse. (I did understitch the facing, it's just not clear in the picture.) And the silk organza also hangs between those two layers of fabric and seems to stabilize nothing at all, left alone that it frays like nothing, although I had pinked the edges. Maybe it isn't meant to be used for interfacings?

So weit, so gut. Jetzt fühlt sich der Besatz aber etwas, nun ja, instabil an. Er rollt sich nicht etwa auf und rutscht auch nicht aus dem Ausschnitt, aber er fühlt sich "labbrig" an und muss beim Anziehen erst mal in die richtige Position gebracht werden. (Auch wenn man es auf dem Foto nicht erkennen kann: ich habe den Besatz mit den Nahtzugaben vernäht.) Und die Einlage hängt so frei zwischen den Stoffschichten und franst auch noch aus. Ist da was richtig schief gelaufen oder ist das für uns heute nur ungewohnt?

What do you think? Why are facings interfaced in contemporary sewing, but not in vintage sewing, and what do you think is the best way to stabilize facings? Any thoughts about that are pretty much appreciated!

Weiss irgendjemand die Lösung? Warum werden heute immer die Besätze verstärkt, aber bei den alten Schnitten nicht? Und welche Methode ist besser?

Apart from that mystery (to me), I just love this blouse. It goes well with jeans and is comfortable to wear!

Abgesehen davon trägt sich die Bluse sehr angenehm und passt auch gut zu Jeans, und wird sicher eines meiner Lieblingsstücke!

Vintage Blouse - The Muslin

I'm not the type for classical blouses, but having only t-shirts to wear with jeans is quite boring, so I think I'll have to make some nice tops. And I found this nice vintage Simplicity pattern which I really like. I want to make version 1, but with the wider neckline from the other versions, because the pattern is used and the version 1 neckline cut away, and without the shawl, as I don't have enough fabric.

Klassische Blusen stehen mir leider überhaupt nicht, aber zu Jeans immer nur T-Shirts zu tragen, wird mit der Zeit auch etwas langweilig. Und so habe ich mich sehr gefreut, diesen alten Schnitt gefunden zu haben. Mein Plan ist Version 1, aber mit dem weiten Ausschnitt der anderen Versionen (der Schnitt ist gebraucht und dabei wurde der engere Halsausschnitt leider abgeschnitten), und ohne den Schal, mangels Stoff. 

Unfortunately, the pattern is one size too large, so I had to grade it down a bit, which wasn't much of a problem except for the kimono sleeves. I still don't know if I did it "the right way". As I wasn't too sure about the fit of a vintage pattern, especially with that grading, I decided to make a muslin first. But I don't have any test fabric in my stash at the moment, and it was the weekend and too late to buy some, so I decided to make a wearable muslin from a cheap grey cotton poplin.

Leider ist das Schnittmuster eine Nummer zu gross für mich, also musste ich ihn etwas verkleinern. Das war aber kein Problem, mit Ausnahme der Kimono-Ärmel; ich weiss auch nicht, ob ich da richtig vorgegangen bin. Da ich mir mit der Passform bei so einem alten Schnitt nicht sicher war, und wegen der Schnittverkleinerung, habe ich lieber ein Probeteil genäht. Ich hatte aber keinen Teststoff mehr, also habe ich eine günstige, graue Baumwollpopeline aus meinem Vorrat genommen und ein "tragbares" Teststück daraus gemacht. 

There is still room for improvement, but I already love wearing the muslin as a new blouse!
Sewing the kimono sleeves was a bit tricky first, but then those pesky corners came out quite nice.

Das muss natürlich noch verbessert werden, aber ich denke, das Probeteil ist so durchaus schon tragbar! 
Die Kimono-Ärmel waren erst etwas knifflig, aber dann sind die Ecken doch ganz gut rausgekommen. 

The middle front part makes some slight bulges at the princess seam, but that should be easy to remove in the final garment.

Das mittlere Vorderteil wirft allerdings noch leichte Beulen an der Teilungsnaht, aber das sollte bei der endgültigen Bluse gut zu beheben sein. 

Maybe I should move the shoulder seam a bit more to the front to better fit my forward shoulders. But the overall fit seems to be quite nice, and the waist sits perfectly at its place.

Die Schulternähte sollte ich evtl. noch ein bisschen weiter nach vorne verlegen, weil meine Schultern auch sehr weit nach vorne gehen, besonders die rechte. 

For pattern grading, I measured the bust and waist width of the pattern very carefully. What I didn't think of was the hip width. Although the blouse does not reach the hips (maybe it's a bit short anyway, although I lengthened it already), the muslin was to tight below the waist. Never mind, I let open slits at the bottom of the side seams, which I decorated with two little bows.

Bei der Schnittverkleinerung habe ich die Brust- und Taillenweite auf dem Schnitt sehr genau nachgemessen. Was ich vergessen habe zu messen: die Hüftweite. Die Bluse geht zwar nicht bis zu den Hüften (sie ist sowieso ein bisschen arg kurz, obwohl ich sie schon um ca. vier Zentimeter verlängert habe), aber die Probebluse ist doch deutlich zu eng unterhalb der Taille. Fürs Probeteil aber kein Problem, ich habe einfach seitliche Schlitze offen gelassen und diese mit zwei einfachen Schleifchen verziert. 

The blouse is supposed to be closed with buttons at the back. I love this feature, but for the muslin I went the easy way and inserted a lapped zipper instead. I didn't have any matching buttons, anyway!

Die Bluse wird nach Schnittanleitung eigentlich mit Knöpfen im Rücken geschlossen. Ich hatte aber keine Knöpfe da und fand dies auch zu viel Aufwand für ein Probeteil, das vielleicht nie getragen wird, und habe statt dessen einen überlappten Reissverschluss eingenäht. 

I'm so happy that the muslin did turn out as an actually wearable garment! Isn't that nice: getting two new garments by sewing one pattern!

Im Grossen und Ganzen bin ich ziemlich zufrieden mit der Probebluse und habe sie schon mehrmals getragen. Super, so habe ich gleich noch ein Oberteil mehr!
