I already started with a try and pinned the skirt on the sides and in the back to make it tighter, but so far I didn't get any motivation to continue on, and I'm not sure if I would like the dress enough to wear it after that. Also, it feels quite tight around the shoulders, although it looks ok. And I don't want to spend any more time for no result. I put the dress to the side, maybe I'll get another idea after some time!
Marie in the cavehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09070718435088120998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354927759379193361.post-33303173911102704262013-08-22T10:25:46.720+02:002013-08-22T10:25:46.720+02:00Thanks for your comment! I even suspect that she also altered the pattern on the skirt part!
I'm still thinking now if I can reuse the fabric, but I'm not sure if I can motivate me to put the dress apart and make something else with the fabric scraps... I personally think the dress looks cute, but I understand it may not be everyone's cup of tea (I love loose fitting garments myself). I agree with Isaspacey that the sample dress looks too tight in the chest.
I was thinking maybe you could try and fix it by changing the skirt a bit? I think it looks ok across your shoulders, so maybe if the skirt were less full it would look a bit better.
Vairë Gwîrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10313459897900416445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354927759379193361.post-24872511216686946732013-08-14T23:04:31.334+02:002013-08-14T23:04:31.334+02:00Sorry, that it didn't work out the way you wan...Sorry, that it didn't work out the way you wanted. The first thing I thought when I saw the inspiration pic was 'wow, that dress is way too tight'. See how her bosom is smooshed flat and stress lines are coming from the underarms. That's why it looks different on you. That dress did not fit and I doubt it was comfortable when she tried to raise her arms above her head.

That style of japanese clothing is typically oversized with a distinctive juvenile look. I can easily see those outfits in the book on a little girl.

However, the fabric is gorgeous, can you use the skirt fabric to make another top or something? Marie in the cavehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09070718435088120998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354927759379193361.post-39744945191254538762013-08-13T19:16:52.094+02:002013-08-13T19:16:52.094+02:00I hate when that happens, too, but I had no catast...I hate when that happens, too, but I had no catastrophic failures for quite a long time - maybe it was the time that something had to go wrong, as this happens from time to time. Never mind. At least I'm cured from buying japanese pattern books!Marie in the cavehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09070718435088120998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354927759379193361.post-89721213873843511872013-08-13T19:14:10.620+02:002013-08-13T19:14:10.620+02:00Haha, I did not try it with a suitcase so far, but...Haha, I did not try it with a suitcase so far, but the idea is great! I, too, suspect that the nice burdastyle dress is somehow altered, with pinning or otherwise, although there was nothing written in the description!
Marie in the cavehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09070718435088120998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354927759379193361.post-57122747826725376022013-08-13T15:44:13.753+02:002013-08-13T15:44:13.753+02:00Oh honey, I'm sorry. I think the problem may have had something to do with your fabric - I Think your inspiration photo works because it's a solid colour. Maybe a stiffer fabric in a solid would have been better. With less flair of course. But yeah, those pattern books don't appeal to me at all. Too girly, too boxy.
FraukeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7354927759379193361.post-12545813900746591072013-08-13T12:55:07.421+02:002013-08-13T12:55:07.421+02:00Well, I hate that it didn't work- that inspira...Well, I hate that it didn't work- that inspiration pic is pretty cute. Maybe you need a suitcase to hold the sides down?
2.Sewing Galaxyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00448138231490604625noreply@blogger.com
